Tails OSX on Mac

Hi there

I installed Tails OSX on a dvd to boot it on my macbook pro, but I can't find the disc in the bios. And when I go to system preferences to choose a booting drive manually, I get this message: bless-utility can't set the current boot drive when I try to restart my mac using the disc as booting drive.

I think you would get more help from the Tails site, since it is an alternative OS.

Apple computers do not have "BIOS"...that's why it cannot be found.

Good grief, from what I found and read with a web search, why bother and what are any advantages if any??? I couldn't even find a specs or features list but did find this:

Tails is not working on every Mac model and you might have to try different installation methods.

At the end, maybe:

Tails will work perfectly!
You will start Tails with some core features missing.
You will start Tails with Wi-Fi or graphics problems.
It will be impossible to start Tails on your Mac.

I see this post is old... I did a search for tails. this is the only post I found on a search for "tails". so I guess most mac users have never tried to use tails? you should its cool. I've been tinkering with it. it can be tricky to get working on a mac, not all macs or all usb sticks will work with it. have to keep trying/experimenting until one works. I got it working on my 2007 imac.... and the 2015 imac...

tails is easy to learn, its linux... with a user interface similar to macs and PCs... udemy has a class on how to use it. best 12 bucks I ever spent.

why? if you don't like learning new things in the computer world, then by all means don't bother. The main things tails offers is privacy and anonymity. Something you cant' get using the "clear web" with a Mac or windows PC. I agree it's not for everyone. For me its a chance to learn a new OS..... and learn about how the dark web works.

Tails is a live system that aims to preserve your privacy and anonymity. It helps you to use the Internet anonymously and circumvent censorship almost anywhere you go and on any computer but leaving no trace unless you ask it to explicitly.

Oh come on now... "Mac" is hardware and/or software. There is a sub-forum here for alternative operating systems. Oh look... this thread is in that sub-forum. That said, I don't see or understand the point of "Tails". If I wanted to use Linux, there are other popular and well-supported distros to choose from that don't require me beating my head on a brick wall trying to make it work. If the point is to have a Linux distro that looks and acts like OS X, then why not just use OS X?

It's not that no one appreciates learning or using alternatives, it's that neither you nor the OP provided any context regarding what Tails brings to the table. Now you have.

No, I don't think you are wrong. You were offering an opinion on the ways that one's identity could be kept secret irrespective of where you went on the web or how you wanted to live your life. That's fair comment.

It's not for me because, long ago, I forwent the delusion that privacy was all encompassing and instead accepted that, with reasonable precautions, I could sleep easily at night.

I acknowledge the downside, but feel that, overall, the upside is worth the price

Personally I think it's great to explore "new" aspects and avenues of computing. I tried Linux Mint, Ubuntu, BeOS and a few others years ago and it was an interesting, fun experience and very educational. These days with security and privacy concerns so high on the agenda tails is probably more pertinent that ever with its TOR based system. Here is a good reference point, Tails - About
Its beauty lies in being able to carry it around with you on a USB stick and run it on any computer without leaving any trace of you being there. I know it sounds like a tool for international spies but imagine if you had to resort to completing a business transaction on a computer in a flight lounge or hotel club lounge overseas.
