Hi everyone,

I was a user of two iMacs, and since they had large HDD and decent power there was nothing to be worried about. I have always used Parallels Desktop to use Windows.

But now I got myself a MacBook Pro and I want to be able to boot Windows to get better results. I know BootCamp is one way, but I would really love to use external HDD and have whole Windows there (I believe this can be done with Mac OS). Is it even possible?

I did some search, but haven't really found a comprehensive manual.

Thank you in advance :)

Best Regards,
Milan

Welcome to our forums.

Microsoft has restricted booting Windows from an external hard drive as part of their anti-piracy rules. However, you can run Windows from an external hard drive using virtual software (Parallels, Fusion, VirtualBox). And no, you can not use Boot Camp to install and run Windows from an external hard drive.
