I have just treated myself to a new camcorder, a Canon Legria HF-G25, or Vixia HF-G20 on the other side of the pond. I have now found that it isn't directly compatible with Macs!!! I had not seen any reference to this at all when I was searching. The camera is really good and I want to keep it so the only way, it seems, is to get a conversion programme so that I can actually load the video from the camera to my Macs. I am running Yosemite.

My question is does anyone know of a good one either freebie or ain't going to need a mortgage to buy please??

Well, I seem to have found what I am looking for at the moment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8HpYgOV8ZQ

The guy is using a different model to mine, but I thought what the **** and tried it. It works fine and all I needed to do was to put the camera into playback mode. I couldn't find anywhere in the manual that mentioned it, but it then shows up on Finder and I can either play the video straight from the camera or drag/drop it to a folder.

That has somewhat made my day!! It's a shame that it's precipitating it down out there or I would have celebrated with a swim. Never mind, I will just have to make do with a glass or several of wine won't I :\:\

:Mischievous:If you decide to really celebrate and do both may I suggest the swim come first. Might be safer that way.

Congrats on finding an answer. I wouldn't have thought of that.

I finished up just putting up with the wine. It is truly **** when you live in the biggest vineyard in the world!! Anyway, it was too dammed cold to get in the pool. The water is warmer than the air at the moment. 29 in, 17 out!!! That's as cold as it's been for a while.

At least it will help the Grumand Tracker water bombers for a while! There are 2 based at Carcassonne through the summer and they are normally busy unfortunately.

Still, it's a good result and I am sorry that Canon couldn't just tell people how to do things!

I've had two Canon multi-function printers. Don't get me started on the quality of their manuals/support info. We might be here a while. lol.

Our temps her are in the triple digits (100+F / mid 30sC) at the moment if I did the conversion correctly. I think I'll take the pool if you don't mind. lol.

I have a Canon EOS 500D from when they first came out and I had a problem with the Canon 18/200mm lens. I found out that it was a warranty job. I sent it to a place in Glasgow whenre they repaired it and sent it back really quickly. They covered the postage both ways too. So I was quite pleased with that service. I've certainly had my moneys worth out of it and it goes everywhere with me. I an sure that loads of people who see me wandering around think that I'm a grockel (Cornish for tourist) and not a local?

I've not had a Canon printer, just HP and an Officejet 7110 Wide A3+ printer at the moment. That's a cracker and not to expensive. This is the biggest photo I've printed at just over a metre long. It's a 200 or so year old painting on a wall in an upstairs room in our village château and is thought to have been painted by a woman who was held prisoner there for a couple of years!!

It took 8 photos stitched together to get the photo in a panorama.

That's an amazing print. I'm not printing as many photos anymore given ink costs but that one would be worth it.

What a story behind it too.

Yes, thank you so much for sharing that. I'm sure some historical society is going to be super-pleased you did that someday.

Ta for your comments gents. I've done 3 of those prints along with one of a painting on the facing wall. One I kept, one went to the Mairie, every French village has one however small, and one to the lady who is 'in charge' of the historical side of the château. The one above is about 14' long! The other, below, is about 8' and was discovered when some of the plaster covering it came away. The colours and detail in both are incredible.

This one shows some of the detaili in the long photo. It is the very right hand end just above the centre.

Sorry that this thread has gone off topic, but I suppose that it is my thread and has been sorted? If it is too far off then perhaps a mod could separate it off, but please tell me where it goes :D
