I currently have a broadbandconnection for my PC and using 56k dial-up for my emac.

If I wanted to connect my emac to broadband, would it simply be a matter of buying a broadband modem and plugging it in to the wall socket?

I already have the connection I set up for the PC, so there wouldn't be a problem changing over to the emac - would there?

Do you have a router? If not, pick one up, they can be had for less than $100, and it doubles as a firewall to protect your PC and Mac from attacks from outside. Then you would connect your broadband modem to your router, and then share the connection between the mac and PC. If you don't need to keep your PC online then you should be able to just run your current ethernet cable that goes to your PC to your emac instead.
That it what I did a few weeks ago when I bought my emac, I have Verizon DSL, a router to share my connection with my Xbox for Xbox Live gaming, and simply unplugged my ethernet cable from the PC and into the emac. After digging out my passwords and server info that Verizon origionally gave me I was up and running without a hitch. Good luck.

Your Mac's Specs
20" iMac C2D 2.16ghz, 13" MacBook 2.0ghz, 60gb iPod vid, 1gb nano
You would have to pay more monthly if you got another modem
You can do it wirelessly or wired (cheaper)

Wired
- Purchase a basic router and CAT5 networking cable with enough distance to go from where your modem is now to the eMac.
- Plug the Cable modem into the LAN Port on the router and connect a cable to the eMac and the PC....Both should work with no configuration.

Wireless
- Install an Airport Extreme card into your eMac
- Purchase a wireless router (b or g depends on how much you want to spend)
- Connect the cable modem to the wireless router and the PC to the router itself and the eMac will connect wirelessly

its pretty simple to hookup:
1. Turn off power to all equipment
2. Disconnect the modem from the original computer
3. Connect modem to the router with ethernet cable
4. Connect computer(s) to router with ethernet cable
5. Power up modem, wait for normal indicator light pattern
6. Power up router, wait for normal indicator light pattern
7. Power up computer(s), surf internet
