HP Photosmart D7160 won't print form MacBook Pro with Mojave.

I haven't used this printer for a number of years. Previously it ws connected to PC.

I downloaded the generic drivers from the Apple site as recommended by HP.

The laptop recognises the printer as it appears in the printer list and the statues box confirms that pages have been sent to the printer however, it does not print.

I replaced the inks as recommended by HP but still it won't print.

I can't work out whether this is a printer problem or a software/Mac one.

I aslo have an HP Laserjet 6L that doesn't work either despite adding the drivers to the laptop. In this case, the pages don't get sent to the printer

Thanks in advance for help

A warm welcome to Mac-Forums.

The HP website doesn't have drivers for macOS Mojave as far as I can see. macOS High Sierra is the latest it supports. https://support.hp.com/us-en/driver...rt-d7100-printer-series/1156664/model/1156657

Not surprising, really, as that printer is ageing, shall we say.

I think that's the problem. Only too happy to be proven wrong.

Ian

Yet here I found it in the list of Mojave-compatible HP printers :
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06133734

Next to that model range is a link titled "Apple Software Update" that links to a section further down the page:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06133734#Apple_ASU

So I suggest the OP read over that web page to see if it helps. If not, then I'd recommend upgrading to a newer printer.

That HP Photosmart D7160 isn't supported as an Apple "Air Print" device, no big surprise, but I don't know about Wi-Fi capable:
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201311

But an older support page says it's OS X supported but not sure if it covers Mojave, and I couldn't find a more recent list. You may have better luck.

Anyway, it lists the HP Photosmart D7100 series as compatible:
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201465

Apple sometimes supplies drivers which often get downloaded when the printer is connected and powered up when you goto Printer/Scanner Pref setup.

His HP 6L should work by using the GIMP Print drivers. There was a recent update to GIMP Print May 2018. Go here to download.

Thanks everyone for the help. What I found is:

Mojave does support the D7160. See here - https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06133734#Apple_ASU and here - https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04510394 and here - https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?locale=en_US

However, it is still not printing even though the status screens show the pages have gone to the printer. I'm guessing, therefore, that there's something wrong with the printer. HP suport couldn't solve the problem so have suggested calling their support line at £18 a pop plus advice. So that's not going to happen. Looks like I might need to get a new Photoprinter.

On the plus side, I downloaded the GIMP drivers and now the Laserjet 6L works.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

That's good to know — and a good Old Reliable laser printer survives to print another day. Good old Workhorse models.

As for your D7160, there is a good chance the printheads have completely dried up preventing any printing.
Especially when you say:
I haven't used this printer for a number of years.
That is Waaaay Beyond there non use limit, and one should print at least a full page weekly if not monthly.

Do you not have the HP utility available that should have an option to do a test print or possibly that's even builtin to the printer in the Utility functions.

There should be a Test Print and Print Head Cleaning options available. There should also be commercial print head cleaning cartridges available but not always successful and may not be worth the cost to try using.

If you have an HP printer service facility close by, they should be able to provide you with some cleaning fluid and a cartridge for not much money, and you could pick up a syringe to fill it from the drugstore.

PS: Some have used Windex to soak the printheads in.
You can't break or wreck anything as the printer doesn't even print this stage, so no change if it fails!!! ;D
