It has done a lot of sitting the past 5 years. I turn it on about once a year. I live out of the US, and when I return I plug it in and let it spin. This year it sounded crunchy.

I have most of my life backed up in multiple places, but I can't say for sure with this one because it seems its partner drive is missing. So, I have to save the fillers. And hope that I can.

One day I will get a proper RAID and to this right.

Thanks for the ear, and the advice.

It's only data files. It is not a bootable drive
I realize that. I only mentioned that to emphisize that although I had a similar experience recently I couldn't fully answer the question because the target files were not going to be bootable.

Gentleman,
All the data is saved onto my wife's laptop.

Next it it will be put onto another external drive and cloud.

Thanks

Good deal. Great to hear the transfer was successful. With the way you described that hard drive sounding...probably took care of things just in time.:)
