No "Low Battery" warning for Magic Mouse 2?

I am running macOS 10.12. I have both the original Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and the Magic Mouse 2. Although I am given a "Low Battery" warning (both pop-up and when viewing Bluetooth devises in the menu bar) for the keyboard, I am never given one for the mouse. I just checked and my mouse is at 8% and I never got a pop-up warning, and as you can see from the screenshot below, it isn't even labeled as "Low Battery" under Bluetooth devices. What gives? How do I fix this so I am warned when the battery is low like I always used to be with the original Magic Mouse?

Interesting, not sure why the low battery warning went away. I'd be curious to see if it ever comes on as you continue to use it. But you should likely charge it up again once it reaches 5% or so, so that you don't end up with a dead mouse the next time you want to use it..

I actually took a break after posting that and charged it for a few minutes, and then charged it overnight when I went to bed. I realize it's best to have a consistent charging habit based on usage (for me, every other week would probably do), but it's still nice to have a low battery warning as a reminder.

For those of you who are using the Magic Mouse 2, can you verify if you're getting a low battery warning?

Keep waiting, when the system detects the low battery, it will notify you. That percent is not low enough, for mouse usage, for the system to notify you. Maybe when it goes below 5 %?

I wouldn't think so, as the keyboard low battery warning came around 10%, and it uses power less quickly than the mouse use does.

My Magic Mouse just gave me a warning at 6%..I would've expected the Magic Mouse 2 to do the same especially since they are both Bluetooth devices and deliver the battery life information. I would even think that the low battery warning is a part of the OS as opposed to the device. I'm running macOS Sierra BTW.

The only way to know definitively, would be to let the batteries run out all the way, or down to 4%.

Interesting. Maybe I just jumped the gun then. I just think it's odd that it would wait to get that low before issuing the warning when the keyboard warned around 10% and it lasts far longer than the mouse charge. And I thought 10% was the threshold for iOS devices warning of "low battery," so it seems like it should be consistent instead of the mouse being the odd man out. Oh well...just another item to add to life's mysteries I suppose.

I had a low battery warning for my Bluetooth keyboard which continued for weeks with the keyboard still working fine. Eventually, the batteries did fail and I had to replace them. It seems the warning is far too early, resulting in batteries being thrown away with a lot of life left in them.

My Magic Mouse (the rechargeable one) has never given me a warning yet. Admittedly I have not had it for that long and only charged it twice.

The difficult part is that whilst the keyboard is back up and running very quickly, because of the location of the charging port the mouse is useless whilst being charged - so it would be helpful to get some advance warning that it will need recharging :)

Another odd thing that happened this morning. Switched on the Magic Mouse 2, powered up the MacBook Pro - no mouse.

I tried switching the mouse off and on again, checked Bluetooth, etc. Still didn't connect.

So I tried deleting the mouse from Bluetooth - then of course I had to go and find a connection cable in order to add it back again. Who ever heard of a Bluetooth device that needs a USB cable in order to add it to Bluetooth?

All of this was fine until I disconnected the mouse cable. Then it lost the mouse again. It is hard to use the mouse with a cable plugged into its base.

So eventually I tried restarting the MacBook Pro - now the mouse works fine. Very odd :)

OS X will warn you when your Magic Mouse 2 has very low battery life, but from what my co-workers have told me is that Mac OS X only warns you when you need to charge it right away. While you can't use the mouse while it's being charged, it doesn't take long to charge. I am told a couple minutes charge is enough for the mouse to last for another 5 - 7 hours. Might be the excuse you need to take a short break and make yourself a cup of tea or coffee!

I don't personally use the Magic Mouse but I do the Magic Keyboard, and I noticed purely by accident that the keyboard works on Macs with Bluetooth disabled if you have the keyboard turned on and attached to your Mac via the Lightning-to-USB cable. This makes it so much easier to use the keyboard on multiple Macs without pairing issues. It does make me wonder whether or not the keyboard would work on a Windows computer with Bluetooth disabled, or without Bluetooth at all, if it's used with the Lighting-to-USB cable connected.
