I have ten cassette tapes of my brother playing an accordion over 20 years ago. They are Dolby C on metal tape and standard cassette tape. What is the best and easiest way to make CD's from these analog tapes? Will the Mac's audio input handle this ? I have a MacBookPro i7 2.4GHz. Is it best to get an audio card and use a G5 tower ? Which software to use ? Roxio's Toast which now has audio capture ?

Direct connect ?

May one take the LINE OUT of a cassette deck and run it into the MIC IN on a Mac and record that way ? Or will a pre-amp need to be interposed ?

The mic input on a Mac is actually line-in so that would work fine.
Ask anyone who's tried to use a regular mic, it doesn't work. It needs to be amplified to line levels.

I believe that is exactly what link #3 (provided above) explains. You did at least take the time to look at the links??;)
