Learned my lesson recently when my hard drive died. Lost everything. So now that I have a new hard drive, I want to buy a reliable external back up for my iMac, (with 2G memory and time machine). Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Recently thought i would try USB on 2.4GHz imac to copy file to Ext HD - when it came up with 33 hours to copy i stopped and changed to Firewire 800 and same file was across in 44 minutes. Go for 7200rpm and Firewire 800.

My 3 ex hdds (time machine , carbon copy , movies ) are all 5 inch 500 gig seagate barracuda 7200 rpm in enclosures and I couldnt be happier with them.

I like this one. Personally just bought the quad interface enclosure and then put my own drive in it - at the time the 750 GB had just been introduced. This enclosure has been faultless for about 2 1/2 years thus far and great speeds with FW800.

For me I don't trust drives much, they fail. Fact of life. So I used one of the NewerTech Guardian Maximus RAID box with two 1TB WD drives
