iMessage -

Hi -

From my MBPro (2012) running El Capitan, I used to have the capability of messaging anyone (i.e., those with Android phones), but this capability seems to be gone now. Did I change a setting inadvertently? Is there a way to enable iMessage for any type of phone?

SMS thorough iMessage only works with iPhones so you must have been using a third party solution such as mysms or AirDroid.

Again. agree. iMessage will do it but only with an Apple device like iPhone or iPad with IOS. Not with Android. I have a Samsung S4 and an iPhone.

Are you sure of that? My Sister in Law owns an Android phone and my wife and I can send her text messages using iMessage from my iMac and she is able to receive them. She can also send us messages from her Android and they appear on my iMac and on both of our iPhones. And as far as I know, I do not have or use a third party app. ??

Over Wifi yes I am sure. Apple stated it many times and I have tried. This is not over a phones data plan.

Well, I totally misread this post initially and read it as being unable to send messages from your Mac regardless of your own phone.

ImDrRichard, do you own an iPhone? If so, is SMS forwarding on?

OK, that's why it works on my iMac between us and my Sister In Law. I have that option turned on and it specifically shows my iMac as the forwarding device.
