I've never had to do this to a disk in Yosemite but I need to zero all of the data which will map the bad sectors on a drive. In the Security Options in Disk Utility, there's a slider that gives different options. The 2nd option says it will write zeroes over the entire disk in one pass, so I guess that's the zero all data option?

I'm guessing that will automatically mark the bad sectors even though it doesn't say it.

Moving the slider one click to the overwrite with zeros is the correct option.
