Hi, I'm trying to do a compilation movie of the holidays. The movie clips import ok but who I try to import stills from iPhoto they don't show in the preview pane, it is just black. It's a while since |I did one of these but I don't remember having this trouble before. I'm using iMovie 11 9.0.9. I couldn't get on with the latest version. I'm on a 27" iMac circa 2009 1 Tb 16Gb ram.
Thanks

Are on El Capitan? If so, this is a problem/bug when using iMovie11 with El Capitan.

Use Photos. That is what iMovie 11 is looking for. It will import your images from iPhoto just fine, and then iMovie will see them. It's not a bug.

iMovie received an update today along with the update to El Capitan. Maybe that will resolve the problem.

Would that be iMovie 11(v9) or iMovie 10? It's iMovie11 that has the problem.

iMovie 10 got the update. I wonder - when Apple decided to name the different versions of iMovie did they get together in a meeting and decide to make it as confusing as possible? Like someone piped up and said lets have some fun and mess with the masses??? Just wondering.... :\

It's really not that confusing. For a long time, iMovie was named after the year that it came out… But it always had a separate version number. At some point, Apple decided to just start using the version number.

Naming software by the year it came out is kind of a "Microsoft" idea anyway.

You mean something good has come out of Redmond? ;)

I always thought it was a dumb idea, because then the software sounds old two years later.

As mentioned before iMovie '11 (note the apostrophe to signify that it was released in 2011) was version 9.x.

Starting with iMovie 10, the version number is part of the name as it should have been all along.

Imovie not recognising iPhoto files

Yes same old story fix that do this. It drives you crazy. Okay so I tried importing video from iPhoto no luck, after about 3 centuries and a million coffee's. I stopped. I went to Finder and clicked "All my files" and there they are MP4 files all sitting in order (my files were from yesterday so it was easy to compile) select the files you wish and create a folder on the desktop drag all files to that folder.
Once there open iMovie and select folder and import. Moral of the story is import files to a folder on your desktop not to an application and when you decide if its iPhoto or iMovie they will be there.

I've always copied jpegs from SD card to Desktop, that used to work, not anymore, never went through an application. (iMove 9.0.4, El Capitan) iMac 2011. Just tried your folder idea, didn't work, photos are still black.
