Hey all. Wanted to announce that we've enabled a new forum thread tagging feature.
What the thread tagging feature does for the site is:
- An alternative way to search for related threads by keyword (just a single click on a keyword).
- Displays thread keywords by frequency of use.
- Could help with search engine results.
- An opportunity for forum members to be more directly involved.
- Generate more forum discussions.
This thread tagging feature is mainly driven by forum membership participation. Which means forum members have the opportunity to tag threads with keywords they feel are important.
These could be keywords found in the:
- Thread title.
- Mentioned by the OP in the first thread post.
- Mentioned by member posts in the thread.
The thread tagging feature is considered a trusted/privileged activity...thus some minimum requirements have been established before a member can add keyword tags to a thread. Most veteran members will already met these minimum requirements. Members that have not yet met the minimum requirements...will certainly do so via participating in normal forum activities.
The way the thread tagging works is...in the area below the end of a thread you will see this information block ("Tags for this Thread"):
In this information block you will see three areas of interest:
- Clickable individual keyword thread tags.
- "View Tag Cloud" clickable link.
- For members with access...the "Add/Edit Tags" button.
If the "View Tag Cloud" link is clicked this will be seen:
As can be seen...in the the "View Tag Cloud" block:
- Lists the top 70 most used thread tags.
- Thread tag keyword frequency is displayed by size of font (larger the font = more frequently used).
- Each keyword in the "Tag Could" is individually clickable.
- "Search by Tag" entry field.
As mentioned above...this thread tagging feature is greatly influenced by participation of forum members. The more threads that contain keyword tags...the "richer" and more beneficial the forum thread tagging feature will be for all of us. If you have the thread tagging ability unlocked...please take a few moments with each thread you read each forum visit to add a couple keyword tags (if those keywords are not already listed for the thread).
If feeling "spunky"...please open & view some older threads & add some keywords to them. We have tons & tons & tons of older threads that could use some keyword tags. Even if you add keyword tags to a forum thread from 2009 (10 years ago)...this could be useful to a member searching for an answer to an issue! The more threads that contain keyword tags...the more beneficial the thread keyword tagging & search system will be.
Thanks very much,
Your Mac-Forums Team
