Hello everyone. Got some interesting news regarding the Mac-Forums Home Page:)

If you haven't noticed already...there's some new content in the right margin area of the Home Page. Three sidebar's of forum related latest activity...which also serves as a shortcut to the latest conversations:

- The topmost sidebar is an 'Activity Stream". Basically the latest activity in chronological order (newest on top). Activities that could be more than just thread posts.
- Middle sidebar is "New Forum Posts". These are the latest & greatest new threads posts. This area also includes a small amount of actual posts info.
- Bottom sidebar is "Forum Threads". This is a chronological list of the newest threads that have been posted...with absolute newest thread at the top.

Hopefully you like it...hopefully it's a useful preview of the latest activity on the forums...and hopefully it's a useful shortcut to get involved in the latest & greatest conversations!:)

Thanks,

The Mac-Forums Staff

p.s. Also please notice that each member's avatar is shown in these sidebar's as well. If you haven't selected or uploaded an avatar yet..please do so. Makes you standout as more as an special individual/member...helps other members associate you with that avatar...and the more you post...the more members will recognise you. All positive stuff of being a member of the Mac-Forums Community.:)

Thanks fo that.

I've always used the New Posts, as my default view. I look for new (0) posts and posts I've replied to first.

Mostly what I've always done too Bob...and I will continue to use from time time...but I will use the sidebar links as well for fast access to speciific high interest/high activity conversations.

The nice things about the new sidebar stuff are:

- It gives everyone an "at a glance" idea of what's been happening without needing to click on anything (such as the "New Posts" button).
- With the avatars...members can see who's been visiting & posting.
- If someone see's something they find particularly interested in one of the sidebars...they can instantly click on a link & immediately get there.:)

I tried again, it still wouldn't let me add an avatar.

Bob: Hang in there....

We are working to fix that. I know it can be fixed by removing your registration and re-registering you, however, we prefer not to do it that way for fear of losing some of your specs and posting history. As I mentioned before, the forum software accidentally removed Jake and listed him as a "Guest". We got lucky and were able to restore most everything for him but in the process we lost some of his posting history.

(BTW, an avatar can be assigned to you but it will be a generic one rather than the one you chose.)

Hey Bob. Apologies for the avatar choice if you dont like it. Wanted to do a test to see if something would actually "take".

This is one of the standard choices. I can certainly remove it if you find it totally disagreeable. Or if you don't like it...maybe for the time being look thru the standard avatar choices...and pick one. I think there are close to 500.:)

Just as an FYI, yesterday when I logged onto the site, in the new stuff on the Home page, I noticed my avatar was next to my login name, in a couple of locations that I replied to threads. Then today, it was updated to the new one. So I just deleted that, and I will see if I can add my custom image in tomorrow.

Edit: I tried earlier to add my custom avatar.

Also, noticed when I had no avatar selected, no avatars displayed in the new fields on the Home page.

2nd Edit: My custom avatar is back in the “New Stuff area”.
