Thrilled it is all working out. And as I stated before, I would be glad to kick in some bucks to help with the costs of the new, but no longer needed(??) site. I also am willing to support our current site if a pay system could ever be worked out.

is this about right????

Nick:

We are trying our best to carry everything over from before. There have been a few glitches but they're being resolved as we move along. The intended end result is that we will have everything from the old forum data base carried over and we will proceed from there.

Long may we continue. Thanks to everyone who negotiated as well as those who stayed the course.

So, can someone actually elaborate on what's going on? The "good news" lacks any substance, and I still have no idea what's actually happening.

Being that this site is based on the premise of knowledge-sharing, how about we have some? :)

Including the new "silent owners" of the domain as well.

Ahem... did you perhaps read post #1 of this thread or you could do some searching if you really need to find out more. You'd need to go back to around December 2017 or maybe just a bit before. But not even the Admins knew much back then other than being told the new owners were cancelling the forum as of December 31. 2017.

As this thread says, things thankfully changed.

PS: I'd say there has been a fair bit of good "knowledge-sharing" from the Admins and Moderators, and even they were left stranded and wondering after a high tide at times it seems.

So, I guess I'll sum it up like this...

Yes, I've read the whole thread. The information shared in post #1 was exactly as vague as what we were sent directly in an email by slydude. I've been around here long enough to know what was supposed to happen, what was being looked at to try and "deal with it", and have offered to help in any ways I could. At this point, there is little to no detail as to what the end result actually was. There is some info alluding to certain things, but it all seems to be being kept hidden.

The information can either be shared (with certain details being left "private" if need be, like whoever is being referred to as "private owners") or it can't. So, how about if someone steps up and shares the details?

@Ember:

There have been lots of ongoing negotiations behind the scenes. During those times, we did not want to release any information regarding the future of the forums because those negotiations could have fell apart and we would have been back to square one. That would have meant more disappointment.

We appreciate and value your membership and your expertise so please hang in there with us for a while longer as the operation of the forums are sorted out.

Thanks.

I sure can't help with any of that but if you want I guess you could be a good sleuth and do some investigating and inquiring with the owners which is easy to find:

Maybe someone there can answer all or maybe some of your queries assuming the info above is accurate and correct.

Understood all around.

It would be good to know that either an agreement has been reached and details can be shared, or things are still being negotiated.

In the time that things have been completely uncertain, I've basically stopped coming here to see who was on, what the conversations were about, and seeing if I could help. Until there's actually something final that includes details, that's exactly the level of participation that I will max out at.

Having been involved with domains, DNS, WHOIS, and the Internet in general for the better part of 30 years, I can appreciate how you're going about finding out bits and pieces of information. Thanks for sharing links to at least some of it.d

The main issues for me at this time are as follows:

- There was an "announcement" made with no real details
- It seems that things may actually still be in a phase of being negotiated, and there really isn't a full announcement that's ready
- Communications about status have been few, far between, and vague
- I simply don't have the time to play Internet P.I.
- Penton is the owner that announced they were shutting the site down

I'll be unsubscribing from this thread and will wait and see if there's a more formal announcement with details that comes out via email from slydude in the future. If so, I'll be back.

Am I being a bit daft, or should i just say that a lot of work has gone on behind the scene and the light at the end of the tunnel does not appear to be a train. So we should be very grateful to the guys who have been doing all of this work should be given more time and then to let us know just what has happened?

I for one have been helped every time I have posed a question on here and I will give the guys who are doing the work the time they need without question. No need for handbags at 20 paces me-thinks?

My goodness Jon, thanks so much for the heads-up warning that the light at the end of the tunnel just could have been a train. Gheese, that could have bee a close call, especially with my small car and I'd never thought of the situation!!! :Smirk:

This statement says it all...there's no ambiguity:

"We are very pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached to allow for the continued operation of Mac-Forums!!!"

Mac-Forums is here to stay...plain & simple.:):)

That seems pretty darn clear and much more than most other sites can provide I dare say, if they even divulge that much.

And how many sites actually have a potential partial backup plan that apparently could be put into action.

And Thanks Again to All those concerned.
