I'm not allowed an Avatar. I had one when I first joined, but ever since my account mysteriously disappeared, I haven't been able to add any. Can't wait for the new site to be up and ready.

On another note, when this site finally closes, will all of the good responses and actual fixes to issues, disappear from the internet forever?

Hopefully, below, is a bigger shot of one of my avitars. It was taken with my old Nicon SLR film camera and is not doctored in any way than feathering the border. I was stood in the right place and was a real star with the shutter :Cool: (in this case 'star is spelled lucky ;) )

Bob, unfortunately once this site does go away all the answers will be lost as well. The various search engines will have broken links for a while and then they will disappear.

The only way to retain the info would be get a DB dump from here to the new site but there is no movement on that.

did something happen to the site a few months ago as I was trying to log in and it wasn't recognizing my username or email or password or anything. I even tried reregistering and that didn't work.

I only decided to look again as I'm waiting on a response to appleinsider about a question I had regarding quicktime and my iphone SE, and lo, I can log in again under my original username and password

We did have some DB issues a few months back whereby the entire site was inaccessible.

Try again with your old Avatar. Nick and I have since received elevated permissions which we didn't have before. Maybe we can get it to work again?

What file type am I allowed to use? I'm trying with JPEG & PNG, should I use some other type?

Any JPG file should work as long as it doesn't exceed what the forum software allows.

Here is the PNG image I used before, AppleMacLogosm2.png .

And, here is what Finder tells me about it, Screen Shot 2018-03-29 at 7.00.22 AM.png .

It had worked before, and now I converted it to JPEG, but still no luck. I'm fine with waiting until the new site is running.

Edit: disregard the images in the "Attached Images" section, I deleted those.

Your account is definitely goofy in some way, I can set your image as the Profile picture but not as your Avatar. So you will see in when you go our profile page, but the avatar just doesn't want to stick.

Hmmm…??? I guess I've got a goofy account as well as I just tried to use one of Bob's 61kb images from above as my own avatar and all I got was a "failed" message referring to the upload I gather:
vBulletin Message
Upload of file failed.

BTW: Nice avatar.

EDIT:

Now it shows up??

I'll remove it when Bob gives an OK in case he wants to check or something.

I do have a meeting to attend in less than an hour, so it may not get removed until this afternoon my time.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks. I made it, when I had some down time about four or five years ago.

It didn't show up, when I added it as an avatar. And now Ashwin confirms my account is goofy. Maybe it will just show up, in this reply to you. Each other time I have tried to add it, it doesn't show up, so I thought it wasn't loading, but maybe I just needed to post something for it to appear.

Edit: nothing, I should have known.

That's odd, but not too surprising if your account is somehow goofy, and hopefully someone can get it fixed.

Meantime, thanks for the use of your avatar but I shall remove it shortly. I hope that part works!!! :Smirk:

Well you finally got me to add an avatar but I didn't like the red one and I'm more of an old blue guy, so I'll try this one for a while.

My other one I've used on other forums is getting old and was outdated some time ago.

But I must admit that I was tempted to use one like this: ;D

Well, that certainly shows that there are more 'ons' than ' offs' Patrick :Confused::Confused:
