Thanks for being patient everyone. We've been in contact with the appropriate folks to get things fixed...and we've responded to all PM's we received during the issue to reassure everyone that things were being looked into. We attempted multiple times to post a message on the forums...but like most members...we were getting database errors as well...thus not able to post.

Have seen some new posts as of this morning...which should mean things are getting better.:)

Thanks again for your patience & understanding.:)

Thanks Ian. We know that we have a very dedicated membership...who enjoy visiting & interacting frequently. We definitely try to keep any downtime to an absolute minimum. Seems that the last two forum issues happened just before a weekend...which as can be guessed...tends to extend the length of time till things are sorted out.

Thanks again for everyone's patience.:)

Again, thanks to all our patient and dedicated members who have stuck it out during the last several days. And a special thanks to Nick who has been able to keep in touch with the proper folks at Penton. Hopefully we can smooth things out with our data base and not lose anyone to the infamous "Guest" list. LOL.

Are you still with us Jake? ;D

I think it's headed for another crash. It's not updating posts as being read, nor thread, nor even forums. That would mean that the database is not updating as people look at posts, which means, to me, it's headed for another crash when reality and the database are far enough apart.

Jake; send a PM to the Admins if you can.

I, too, have had the odd problem; but not yet as obvious as your experience.

We shall see. I've noticed that issue/change for a while now...but it started for me when I upgraded my OS a couple months ago.

Nick, thanks for the comment. I had not seen it before the problems began. And yesterday it seemed to be working, but today I noticed that the forums indicating unread posts were wrong, and threads with unread posts didn't have new posts in them. So I specifically read a post, left the board, then returned and the same post was still marked as unread. Maybe it's just MY account that isn't being updated, given how it had to be reconstructed after the first big outage when it made me a guest?

I don't think it's the fault of your reconstructed account. As I stated before, our Data Base has been repaired several times, but it appears there are still some problems. We just have to be patient and let the folks at Penton get everything back to normal.

And just to add, at least with my account, and I thought you admins were just having some fun with me, but the "Edit" function has disappeared from my posts except for my most recent posts where it suddenly appeared after going back to check.

My old posts still do not have and any "Edit" option as they used to. Most current ones of later today do have the "Edit" function. Or did when I just looked just now.

That's the way it's supposed to work Patrick. Only Staff Members can edit older posts since that requires moderation permission. If you were at one time able to edit older posts, that was not normal. But then again Patrick, maybe you were performing a bit of magic. LOL.

Thanks Charlie, but just to make it clear, I've always been able to edit any of my own posts and at any time I'm sure, or at least was able until this last "database error" thing, but never any other member's post, if that's what you were saying.

And no "magic" on my part, besides I wouldn't even know how. :Smirk:

No Patrick, that's not what I was saying. The forum software has always placed a time limit on when you can edit your OWN posts. I'm not sure what that time limit was set as before, but I believe it was something like hours from the original post. You never could edit anyone else's posts. Only Staff members using moderation can edit older posts of anyone.

As I stated above, if you could at one time edit older posts that you made, it was likely a glitch in the forum software.

Well, at least he tries around Christmas Time, thanks Ian.

BTW: This Edit exist/not-exist thing must be time stamped by the hour according to this recent post. Anyway no big deal I guess and maybe I hadn't noticed the effect before but I don't think so.
But really, would anyone even notice a correction made 6+ hours after an original post anyway??? :Blushing:
But why not the later post #8 below in the screen shot, that's almost 18 hours earlier than my post and screen grab???

Members have up to 24 hours to edit a post they made.
