Duplicate a tune in iTunes

Hi and welcome.
What you ask is a touch complicated.
You select the song in iTunes. Right Click and from the options, choose "Copy".
Now go to your Desktop and Right Click and Choose "Paste". This creates a copy on your Desktop.
Click on the pasted song on your Desktop and then use the Keyboard combination of Command plus i. This will bring up all the information relating to that song. You can then change the info according to your taste. Title, artist and so on.
Once done, again click on the revised copy and use Command plus C to copy.
Having done that, you have to open Finder, then navigate to Macintosh HD > Users > your name > Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Automatically Add to iTunes
When you get to "Automatically Add to iTunes", use Command plus V to paste the changed version into your iTunes Library.
Not easy. Convoluted but successful.

Why not just export a copy of the music to the Desktop, change the name of the file as desired, then just select and drag it onto the iTunes app icon and it should import it into the users library on its own and play it.

Wise and sensible suggestion, Patrick. Problem is: I couldn't get that to work. So I did a pile of research - Internet, other Forums etc and came across the method I described. And it worked.
That is not to say that your logical approach wouldn't work for others. I just didn't for me. I assumed it might have something to do with formats or some other reason I couldn't get iTunes to recognise it with the drag & drop method.
The OP should try your idea first - if it works, bingo. If not, there is another foolproof way.

Thank you for the responses. I must, however, agree with TWt: "Wise and sensible suggestion, Patrick. Problem is: I couldn't get that to work." I'm using iTunes on my MacBook, but from the info you've given, Patrick, it seems to me you're thinking I'm on a PC (?).
Anyway, dragged the tune to the desktop, changed the name, but (as Ian states) they will not copy back to iTunes or allow to be dragged. . .
So, Ian, if your "foolproof way" is available to this peasant, it would be appreciated!

And, AlteMann, please post back if the instructions in my Post #2 worked for you. It did for me, but computers can be capricious..... you never know
