Garage Band 1) best tutor ? and 2) it can't see my files

I'm brand new to this so would like to know what the best tutorial is for Garage Band please. But second question; a small recording studio where I recorded a song has kindly sent me several files which I successfully downloaded and are nicely in iTunes. But when I try to get GB to import them for me to play with, the files are greyed out as if GB can't see them. Is there some magic I need to weave to get the files in. Then I can use that as my initial project before embarking on recording myself here at home.
