DVD/CD Player? Bluetooth? USB?

I admit as approach my 75th year...30 March (no presents please) I am somewhat...okay, a lot confused as to if i should be buying a new CD/DVD player with an HDMI output, or just play my music via Bluetooth from my iPad. Or use a USB flash drive. I do make my own CDs to play in my SUV. And there is a USB port in my car, but am not sure how to make that work. (I did read today that the USB drive needs a program in order to play the MP3s). I usually download individual songs on iTunes or copy from my CDs to make my own eclectic CD from various artists or genres vis Toast Titanium. As CDs are cheaper to copy songs to than a USB drive, I'll probably stick to that. I do have two DVD/CD players, but the one does not fit into the gorgeous media cabinet i received yesterday from Room & Board. Only 18" deep. (If I hard wire the power cord I can probably make it fit).Not sure about the other player, but neither has HDMI outputs. I did buy a new Yamaha Receiver with mucho HDMI . I don't have Blu-Ray, don't usually buy DVDs. I have 12 DVDs I bought many years ago when a store was getting rid of their stock. Oh, and the Rowan Atkinson DVD set. On the plus (?) side I do have many cassettes I made previously and a VHS player (just in case they stage a comeback), 80-100 LPs and many 45's. My sister took the 78s when my parents passed.
Probably will get a new CD/DVD player with HDMI outputs that can fit in my media cabinet. Haven't synced my iPad via Bluetooth to my new receiver yet. Now I need someones to tell me there is something new that makes everything I know and have obsolete.

Use CDs in my Ford still yet to be convinced the long term life of a thumb drive is viable.

Just checked my other single player CD/DVD player. It does have a HDMI output and as a single player is not as deep and will fit easily in my cabinet. The larger CD/DVD player is so deep because it is a 5 CD/DVD player. Hard wiring the power cord would not work either because all the RCA jacks are in the rear and the cables would stick out as far, if not more so. Also, my 18" deep cabinet is only 16.5" once the doors are closed.
Agree that a CD is more reliable than a thumb drive. Now I have to figure out how to operate my new receiver. G'day.

Recently copied a lot of cds into iTunes using my Apple Super Drive, then synced them to my phone for playing via bluetooth in the car. Also have a portable bluetooth speaker for the house/garden.
