Why has there been so much trouble over the years with Itunes?
I've read complaints about the program, and have run into a few myself.
Currently on Itunes 12.9
I started a new Playlist
then I dragged one folder to it, and the song showed up
I then dragged another song to the same playlist and nothing happen
After a bit I was able to add 2 more songs to the playlist.
after that nothing...
using Add to playlist did not work, drag and drop does not work
I can see "bugs" in new programs, but this program is very old by now
and should be very stable and easy to use.
So anyone one have any idea how to get Itunes to work
best
BTW Happy New Year

I can't actually recall any major issues with iTunes over the years that I've personally experienced, including playlists. I just made a playlist last night without issue. Have you tried quitting iTunes and relaunching it?

You could also try re-installing iTunes:

I did have one problem a while back. Contacted Apple and they directed me to the iTunes site on the web where I downloaded a fresh copy of the latest iTunes app.

That solved everything. The download does not affect your library.
