Hi,
I'm trying to export a playlist (of about 50 songs) from my old computer (MacBook OS X 10.7.5 - Lion and it has iTunes 12.2.2.25) to a flash drive. Then, take the flash drive to my new computer (iMac MacOS 10.12.6 - Sierra and iTunes 12.6.1.25) and load the playlist into iMac/iTunes. Now I tried doing this but all I get loaded in my new computer is the song information (title, time, artist, etc) but not the song itself. It there a way to export/import the actual song itself without doing my whole song library? I just want to bring in part of my library via the playlists I create one at a time.

Thanks for your help,

Bob M.

The Playlist, is only a list of songs. You can burn it to a CD, the move those songs to the new computer.

choose the playlist, select all the songs in the playlist, ctrl-c (copy). Go to your flash drive and open it. Ctrl-V (paste) Now you have all the songs from the playlist on the flash drive.

Diane,

Shouldn't that be Command + C and Command + V??

I'll try that, thank you. I didn't realize the playlist is just the info without the actual song itself (seems a bit useless).

I exported by opening iTunes then File -> Library -> Export Playlist. It created a document file which I clicked and dragged to the flash drive.

I used to think the same thing until I got a better handle on what playlists can do. Here are some things that can be done with paylists without having to have multple copies of the exact same file on your hard drive.
1. If music is organized by genre driven playlists, the same song can be listed in multiple playlists if appropriate.
2. Playlis make it possible to easily control which songs, movies, etc. get transferred to your phone.
3. You have a great number of ways to otgnidr.

Yes, I can see the flexibility of the playlist concept. However, in my particular case, I'll be getting rid of my old computer. After 12 years of use, I'd prefer not to copy all the songs in the library in its entirety and bring this mass of chaos to my new machine. So I though I'd try the playlist idea first by organizing what I'd like on the new computer first and then I can selectively edit what's left on my old computer and decide how and when to bring it over as I re-organize things. Of course, it's my own fault by letting things get slightly out of hand, organizationally speaking. Apple tries to put these type of ideas in a one-size-fits-all mentality which doesn't always suit my needs and my particular approach.

Thanks for your suggestions,

Bob M.

DianeVan and IWT,

Command-C and Command-V work perfectly. Thanks so much.
