I'm looking to connect 1 pair of speakers (Event 20/20) to a Yamaha MG10/2 mixing console so I can use these speakers as monitors for 2 different computers (not simultaneously). 1 computer has 1/4" outs via the audio interface & on the other computer I can only output through the 1/ 8" headphone port which is why I figure I can do this with the mixer.

Can anyone suggest how I can go about accomplishing this (what connectors/cables would I need, etc)??.........Thanx~!

I don't really know and I'm not involved in any audio recording stuff but I would have thought just using an appropriate adapter would work, but after looking at the photo of the speaker inputs I don't know if that would actually work.

I'm not exactly an audio maven but here's what I think will work. Look at page 21 of the mixer manual here.

1. Each computer's audio goes into one of the input areas on the mixer. On the diagram they have guitars, mics etc in this area. The cable you will need deppends on the computers invlved though 1/8" stereo to 1/4" connections should work. Someone else may be able to answer whether an XLR connection would be better. Each computer goes into a different channel.

2. To connect the speakers use the outpput channels at the top right of the mixer. It is listed as powered speakers in the diagram I linked to above. Those connections appear to be 1/4" on the mixer so this cableshould work. If it is the smaller 1/8" connector (headphone juack size) it's this one (One per speaker).

It may take some fiddling with the knobs and settings to get things working. Start with the volume/sound levels low so some horrible distortion/feedback doesn't cause problems.

The cables I linked to come from a company called B&H which does audio, video, and computer gear. It might be worth calling /emailling them with your question. They are usuually pretty helpful. I have no connection to them other than as a customer.

Patrick Thank you anyway~!..........Slydude, your answer which includes the links is EXTREMELY helpful & greatly appreciated~!!! I've been a B&H customer here in NYC for decades, using them for both audio & video products.

Hope that helps you out a bit. As I say, I'm not sure that will work but hopefully it gives you a place to staty. Those cables are probably available from other vendors but I thought they might be a good place to ask if it would work.

If you try this please post back and let us know the results. I'mm alwaya a big fan of projects that involve poking tab A into slot B type projects -- especially if doing so is something most people don't think of doing. Hence the collection of connecting wire, parts, and other pieces my wife wishes I would put into the nearest trash bin.

I would just use a cable like this to go from the 1/8" headphone jack on the computer to the 1/4" input jack on the mixer:

Thanks for that link and photo. I should have included a link to such a cable in step 1. I know those cables will work to feed the audio into the mixer. I have several and have used thm for that purpose numerous times. The cables are available with either mono or stereo connections at each end. Since the computers likely output stereo that's what's best. The stereo connectors have the double black bands oneach connector.

@MauriceJ One of the benefiits of plugging each computer into a difffferent input channel on the mixer is that one could have audio from both computers mixed together and adjudt the relative volume levels. You may not need that but it should be possible.

A little late to the party here. I have all UA racks (apollo8 and apollo8P and octos sats) the arrow is a great interface.

Anyway unsure of the arrows monitor outputs, but on mine are trs outs each side (not stereo just balanced) and you -could- go trs to xlr to the mixer but be very careful you don’t enable phantom power on the mixer (sending 48v into your arrow) I tend to be careful of using xlr for that reason.

The issue is if the mixer channel is mono/stereo, and if you can use a balanced (trs 1/4”) in. Many do. For the other computer if it’s just internal sound out, I’d just use mini out to rca usually mixers have a ‘tape’ in with rca in. Just use those.
I just use xlr to trs each side from my genelecs to apollos.
