Been working with Itunes a lot more now,
I've have many playlist for dance music, but I would like to put a pause between songs.
I don't want to use the "fade" feature.. I have searched the net.
Does anyone know if there is a way to have a pause between songs Itunes 12.9 on MAC

Try these directions. Move the slider right to lengthen the pause between soungs and left to shorten it.

I'm going to spin this question into a thread of its own rather than have it attached to a year old thread.

The OP said he didn't want to use the (cross)fade feature, but rather want's a delay...probably a bit of silence...between tracks.

There is no iTunes setting that will do that. However, if you work from a fixed playlist you could generate a silent audio file of the duration you wish (or several different ones) and drop them into the sequence between tracks. It's a work-around, but that would get you your silence. Use something like Audacity to generate the silent files, name them something like "silence_2sec", etc.

If you're working or acting as a DJ, there are better...far better...apps. Check out Mixxx for example. The silence wouldn't be automatic, but by default Mixxx doesn't start the next track in the list, you do that when you're good and ready for it.

I understand the OP's desire not to use the crossfade feature but, as you pointed out, there isn't a way to do that in iTunes easily. I didn't even think of the method you suggested. I thought of something simmilar but it would have involved creating a sound file wiht a gap and adding that sound to the end of each track. A time-consuming pain but it wouldn't require the tracks to be in the same playlist.

Not a bad idea, but you'd then have "special" versions of every track you'd want to use in the playlist. I do something similar for a different application. I have a special playlist for background music, and each track used has had special processing applied that limits its dynamic range and sets a uniform playback level. The "dual inventory" problem is not small, however. It's the only effective way to apply special dynamics processing to all files however. None of the "plug-ins" work as well as the processing chain I set up in Audition.

But a silent space file would be fairly simple and be specific to only the playlists that need to use it.

@sandman - if you need help creating such a silent file post your time requirements and I'll whip one up for you..
