I have several songs that are .m4p files and I'm unable to play them on iTunes.

Does anyone know what I can do to make them playable (not only on iTunes but on portable devices as well)?

Thanks.

That sort of type, usually having the .mp4 extension is a video file with audio embedded. You should be able to play that with VLC without any problems.

Did you import the files into your iTunes library?

If the files are actually m4p, then you may be able to change the file extension to mp4. Of course, make a copy of the file before you attempt to change the extension.

I noticed I can not transfer my .m4p files to my Sonos home system. It seems like only the .m4a files are transferring. I read in a newer version of iTunes that someone was able to highlight a song and then go to the Advanced settings and convert the .m4p format into an MP3 format which apparently worked for that person. I have iTunes 10.7 and I do not seem to have it and can not find a more recent version. Any ideas how to fix this problem so I can convert my .m4p format into .m4a format???

Your version of iTunes is too old. The reason you can not find a more recent version is that you are likely running an older version of macOS. You need to update macOS before you can download a more current version of iTunes.

Tell us which version of macOS you're running?
