Why does iTunes keep creating these folders?

Another cute quirk from Apple's iTunes app!

Now iTunes is creating these two-character folders in my Music folder. Does anyone know WHY this is happening, and if it something that can be fixed? I am not sure when these folders get created, but I think it's when I play a song.

I am on a MacBook Air (HighSierra) with the latest iTunes version.

I don't use either, but as you say, add another iTunes quirk.

At least you're not alone and not the most useful "fix" for most here:

Is there some option to keep some sort of record of songs recent play dates?

But that's a bit odd as the folder seems to be empty.

Maybe someone knows here or at some of the other Mac forums you posted and will post the answer.

In iTunes Preferences, do you have "Keep all song changes in Notifications" selected?
