• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I am betting that those squeaks you heard is the DRM interfering with the conversion process. That description would pretty closely match the results I got recently with Handbrake.

I Have sucessfully done this several times with Audio Hijack 3. It will record high quality mp3 or ACC directly from DVD player app. or system audio. You choose which. Just hit record when the song starts and quit when it's over. Easy as pie, Nothing extra is recorded. Great program very versatile, It has a wide range of uses. I have used it for many years. Mac friendly, Worth every cent. By Rogue Amoeba Software

I don't know where Holclo lives, but there are members here I noticed from all over the world.
What you quoted as far as copyright law is concerned applies to the US but not necessarily to other countries.

Thanks krs, you beat me to posting the same thing, but it is quite a valid and critical point.

BTW: wasn't it one of the QuickTime.app versions that could "suck out" some protected music to use for personal use???, the one when Steve Jobs went to war against the music industry and their high-handed ways.
