Hello, i'm new to all this , never got in to dvd in a big way anyway, just a Netflix girl, renter and sometime streamer. There are bunch of music clips i've been working on committing to discs.Would greatly appreciate anyone's input as i'd like to finish this by now. :) I used to burn Cds, and it is so simple, doesn't seem to be the case for video with a free , easy program for Macs. I even looked in to couple free trials, doesn't enable menus on Wondershare, prices are high on the software , seem to be drawbacks with limited ones out there, by reviews, and once i complete this few disc project don't anticipate doing it again. Question is do you guys recommend anything besides free Burn ?(which works but couldn't do menus. )
I do have IDVD on my IMac but will it burn mp4's from yt to playable dvd? Or can i use converted to mpeg files from "Burn" and burn disc on IDVD?

If I remember correctly iDVD supports most mp4 files. There are some cases where it has problems with mp4 files. There is a post in this thread that covers it pretty well. In order to play on a regular DVD player the files will be converted to MPEG 2. I can't think of a burning progam that has a menu system as extensive as iDVD but it never worked well for me.

Toast has sommething of a menu system but IMHO it is not as nice as iDVD. it's also rather expensive for a one off project.

I've used Burn.app for years with great success, but I must admit I wasn't doing such a project that you're tackling.

And I may be out to lunch, but I thought iTunes could burn such videos unless YouTube restricts doing so somehow.

Have read here:

Maybe I'm missing something here but does that present the type of menu that the OP apparently wants? In other words, the OP seems to want a menu similar to that produced by iDVD or commercially produced DVDs. I don't think the methods that you linked to produce such menus.

Hi, Ian, thank you but it's actually a separate issue, different question, and i've since found a site that can convert other online uploaded videos besides you tube

Thanks for your reply, info. It really sounds like Burn is way to go for me, and i'll live with no menus, save files for maybe in near future there will be a program that can do that. I can look in to IDVD more but looks like doing menus for this project in the fast look i had at a tutorial, will be particularly time consuming.

iDVD is about as easy as it gets as a way to create menus. A basic menu takes very little time and there are some pretty slick looking templates to help with that. Oast has basic menus but it can be expensive.

Like i said no experience with this till now , but seeing the tutorial very briefly looked like i'd have to go to end of each track to the minute, and create titles/chapters, and i have two full concerts, hr, and a half each, and then whole bunch of individual clips, probably going to fill 3-4 dvds. So if you know of fast, simple way, i'd listen but i'm also not sure IDVD will accept all my MP4 clips,(most of which have been converted to mpeg on Burn ) and don't want to do it all and get a dvd that won't play in players. I have a ..i don't know at least 5 year old Panasonic player that doesn't list Mp4 as something that will work in their machine.

You're right. To navigate to each track it would be necessary to set a chapter marker at the end of each track to mark the start of the next track. That could be very time consuming even if you fast forward till you get near the end of a track. Been there, done that. and it can be very frustrating--Especially for live music where bands often slide from one song right if not the next one with little or no discernible break between tracks.

Some burning software will set chapter markers automatically but I don't think that would produce what you want. Usually the chapter marks are based on elapsed time with little/no control over where the breaks fall. A chapter marker could, for example, fall in the middle of a track if it is set automatically.

I believe that the videos which contain individual songs would be treated as separate chapters without your intervention but I'm not sure. It has been a while since I did anything like this.

I'll try to remember to do that. I've spent quite a bit of time in the last two days trying to get my Logitech 950 remote to play nice with my A/V setup.

Post your specs and problems and I'm assuming you're using your Mac with their Logitech Harmony Remote Software.

I ran into some configuration problems with our old Logitech Harmony 520 remote many years ago now, mainly due to their instructions being incorrect for some of our Yamaha audio stuff and the settings.

PS: It's still working nicely thanks. :Smirk:

BTW: Did you know the original Harmony devices and concept was developed by a Canadian firm working out of Toronto and they sold out to Logitech???

I think I had one of those 500 series remotes a few years ago. The remote worked well but I just couldn't do what I needed to with the Sony receiver at the time. There weren't enough surround sound keys to work well. Seems like you had to keep adjusting the settings for each type of program. I did not know they were originally done by a Canadian form. By the time I got mine Logitech had taken things over.

My current problem is that even if I am only a foot or so from the receiver (Yamaha RX-V667) it doesn't seem to respond to any commands. I'm setting this up mainly for my wife. I need it to change to the necessary input for what she wants to do. I don't think the power needs to be on for that to happen. IIRC inputs can be switched without power. the larger problem though is that it's not responding even to power on/off commands. I'm going to grab my Yamaha remote tomorrow and make sure the sensor in the stereo hasn't gone bad but it was working a few days ago. I've been using the setup software to get things going.

I have noticed that the 950 seems to be very sensitive about being aimed directly at the gear it is controlling. The 950 itself seems to be working because it will control the Apple TV and Roku box. TBH setup is being a bigger pain than it should be.

Yes, unfortunately , but it's merely convenience i suppose. It's not something i'm going to put on more than occasionally , just want to preserve it, so i should live with no menus and stick to Burn's relatively simply process. Just thought after all my research in to the different aspects i should see what some of you thought that may have dealt with this. Appreciate your time answering these questions :)
