Does anyone know the best application or device to use to upload DVD's into iMovie HD 5.02 for editing using an old iMac running on O.S 10.6.8? I used an old video camera running the DVD through the pass through controls of the video camera... but sadly it died! I hate the overly complicated newer iMovie applications because I'm not making a Hollywood Movie. I just want the simplicity of iMovie HD 5.02 & iDVD 7.02. There is a work around for iDVD 7.02 (Choose File, One step from movie & then choose the iMovie 5.02 File.) Apple should have supported an easy program for those simply editing vacation videos!

ANY IDEAS? THANX IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!

Could you explain and describe your problem with a few more details as I'm not understanding the complete problems and or the equipment and files/apps involved. Sorry.

You are trying to use iMovie software that is 12 years old, so it's not ideal. You can use Handbrake to convert your DVDs into .mov or .mp4 files which iMovie should accept.

You can find Handbrake, for free, here:
https://handbrake.fr/old.php

You need to scroll down to version 0.10.5, which is the last version that supports Snow Leopard. Click on the Mac GUI link.

I did this several years ago an article I wrote for About This Particular Msc. The process I used relied on a QuickTime MPEG component that may no longer be available. Handbrake should work but you may have to export the video into DV forat to import it into iMovie. I'll check on that tomorrow.

Handbrake! You guys are the best! I'll try it!

I want to get video files into an old iMac running on 10.6.8 & iMovie 5.02.... but I may have to settle for using my newer Mac Laptop with Handbrake if... 10.6.8 won't accept files from Handbrake! Seem dumb, but I like the simplicity of iMovie 5.02! Good enough for editing home movies & far less complicated! I'm coming up on 77 years old & stubborn!

Thanx to all!

I went to the Handbrake Site! Confused

Question: Which of the downloads would you guess will match up with 10.6.8...... &/or 10.12.6 Sierra? If I can't get the files into 10.6.8 maybe I'll have to use Handbrake on my MacBook Pro!

Thanx in advance for replies!

At near 77, with fibromyalgia, I'm just buying my hot rods instead of building them! That's not so bad!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get "http://www.oldapps.com/mac/handbrake to "actually to connect"! Maybe it closes at 3PM like banks use to do! It says connecting... but never connects! It's like the Apple sites that give you pages & pages of information on a download you need... BUT never an button that actually creates the download! As I remember I dated girls like that about 60 years ago! I've been using Mac's since the very beginning & every year they get less user friendly to try to do everything for everyone! Being "user friendly" was what made the Mac world leader! Is it just me? Probably.... because my wife say's I'm always wrong! LOL!

Like my Mustang Patrick? Scary fast!

The oldapps link seems to be working for me. At least to get to the right page. I didn't try to download the file.

Here's another link to a version that is supposed to work for 10.6.8. Here's the link to download Handbrake version 0.10.5 Mac GUI.

Assuming that your Internet and everything is working well, you should be able to get it downloaded from here:

NOTE:
Scroll down to:
HandBrake 0.10.5
- Last version to support OSX 10.6

at this URL:
https://handbrake.fr/old.php

Good luck, and that's the only place I could find the older versions BTW.
