If I upgrade to High Sierra will Quicktime Player 7 still be functional? I use this program a lot with Mavericks.

Yes, it will still function. I have both QT 7 and 10 and both work in High Sierra. However, QT 7 will not work in the next version of macOS as it's a 32 bit app.

Regarding when the OS will finally stop working with 32-bit apps, this article from Sep 2018 says it will be after Mojave, so there's a while yet to go!

I have both 7.6.6 (Pro, registered) and 10.4 versions of QT. Used it in Sierra for looping over selected passages in audio files. Now that I've upgraded to High Sierra, the app launches and all features work, but no sound comes out. It seems to be unable to access the output device.

Does anyone else have this problem?

The original thread is dated before Apple announced that Mojave would be the last version of macOS to support 32 bit apps. Apple gave a reprieve to developers of 32 bit apps to give them time to recompile them for 64 bit.

Sorry, @chscag I was aware that the article came after you wrote to this thread, and didn't mean to imply that you'd missed the memo.

I resolved my own issue with QTP7 not playing audio files. I had been using it to play copies of files from my iTunes library — either m4p's or m4a's. Some of those I had saved as mov's. It so happened that the ones I tested were either m4p's or mov's exported from an m4p. The difference between protected and unprotected didn't matter to the app when it was running under Sierra, but now, under High Sierra, it made a difference.

Odd, but resolved.

Came across this thread today and downloaded QuickTime 7 onto my MBP running High Sierra. It opens up fine but when I enter the QT Pro Registration Code the only option I have is a "Buy QuickTime Pro" button. With no other choice I clicked it and got "Safari Can't Find The Server".

I thought it was too good to be true. Can anyone provide insight?

Welcome to our forums.

It was probably best to start a new thread since this one is three years old. However, we will try to answer.

The current version of QT is 10.5. QT 7.0 will not run in a version of macOS after Mojave since it's a 32 bit app. QT Pro as far as I'm aware is no longer supported or available.

Instead of QT Pro, try downloading and using the free VLC app:
