I am working on a movie project and have added many music clips. As always in the past I have been reviewing the movie as I progress and the music has been playing as usual but suddenly there is no music playing. The green bars are there on all the clips and the audio in the video clips comes through loud and clear but not the music associated with the photos. When I tried to burn a disc image I got this message:

The following audio files used in this project are not currently available (lists all the music files)

I suspect I have inadvertently changed a setting somehow but I am perplexed. Suggestions will be appreciated

Thank you

The following audio files used in this project are not currently available (lists all the music files)
That would suggest that the music files have been deleted, or they are on an external drive that is no longer connected. Do the tracks in iMovie have little yellow triangles on them?

Thank you for the quick response

There are several mysteries but first let me answer your question - I have a total of 14 music tracks in the project. A few of them have the yellow triangle but most do not and neither category plays. There is one major track which DOES play but only one.

My iTunes files are on the iMac itself but the movie projects are on an external hard drive in a file called iMovie projects (this one plus another which is completed). I have recently had problems communicating (?) with the EHD. Let me explain - my time machine is on the same EHD and recently I get periodic messages that the time machine failed to backup. When that happens I turn off the EHD and restart it and all is well for a few days when it happens again. This has happened several times in the past week. The iMovie project on the EHD seems to be saving along so it appears to be communicating. Is it possible I have EHD problems which are preventing access to the iTunes tracks?

By the way when I click on a tune in the iMovie browser (lower right) or in iTunes itself they play with no trouble.

What if I move the project from the EHD to the iMac? I usually delete a project once completed so storage capacity is not an issue. If that might work how would I move the project from the EHD to the iMac?

Sorry this is so confusing. If you need further explanation please let me know

It sounds like it's maybe an intermittent problem with the EHD. Have you tried a different USB lead?

If that might work how would I move the project from the EHD to the iMac?
I seem to recall that you are using iMovie11(v9). If so, in the Project Library you should see your EHD and your Mac's internal drive. My EHD is called iMovie. You can see both here:

Drag and drop your Project onto the Mac's HD icon. You'll be asked if you want to transfer the associated Event. Say yes to that.

Thanx again MightyGem

1) My EHD, a G Tech G drive, is connected to the Mac with a 800/800 firewire and it seems to be a solid connection

2) Dragged and dropped the project from the G Drive to the Mac HD but got messages that "some" files were not available. Once copied and pasted I opened the project and still failed to play the music

3) Once I had the project in the iMac HD I deleted one of the music tracts and reinstalled it from the editor but it still will not play.

4) I did a disk verify on the EHD and after a very long time got error messages about incorrect number of extended attributes and incorrect number of access control lists and then a final message "Drive found to be corrupt and needs repair" Clicked Repair Disk and after a short time the message "Disk utility stopped repairing G Drive. Could not unmount disk"

I suspect #3 is my main problem and I think I am in deep trouble. Your thoughts?

UPDATE

Tried again this morning to "REPAIR" the external G Drive and this time, after a very long time, it worked. It listed several repairs (which I neglected to document) but it now appears to be repaired. Following that I tried the iMovie project again, both the file in the EHD and the one in the iMac. Same problem as before - neither played most of the music. I mentioned earlier that there was one audio which plays so I tried importing that at the beginning of the project. Still plays in the original location but not in the newly imported place.

I am mystified. The one earlier (different) project which is stored in both EHD and iMac plays perfectly in both places but this one will not cooperate.

Maddening

Thanks again for your help

The only other suggestion I can give, is to restart the Project from scratch. A bit of a pain, but it's worked for me in the past.

I had considered that and you are correct - it will be a bit of a pain but at this time I see no alternative. What i thought I would do is arrange all the photos in the desired sequence in iPhoto so I can import them all at once, then drag in the few videos to the right places. I discovered that in iMovie File > Print project gives me a contact sheet showing every element as it appears on the iMovie screen. Unfortunately the pix are so small they are barely discernible. Can you suggets a better approach?

Once again I appreciate all your help and especially your patience
