• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Digitizing HDV with iMovie

Hello,

I am using iMovie 7.1.4 on my iMac with 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo and OS 10.10.2. I am trying to digitize HDV from my Sony HDR-FX1. When I digitiza standard DV it works fine, but when I try to digitize HDV it doesn't work. All I get is a blue screen.

What am I doing wrong? Is my version of iMovie capable of digitizing HD?

Thanks for any help.

Without a long-winded talk about this, the root of the problem is Sony. They suck, because they LURVE to use their own proprietary mix of formats and don't play well with others.

If you need to get this converted immediately, take it to a video conversion service and pay them to do it.

If you can fool around with it for a while, this thread appears to have a working solution (not the first one, the second one):
