• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Is it possible to take the output of a digital video switcher and import the signal into IMovie?

I would be inclined to say yes but ...

Sure, the switcher is a Focus MX-4 DV Digital Video Mixer. I'm taking a 6 pin Firewire output from the mixer into a 6 pin Firewire input on the computer. My operating system is Mac 10.4.11. My I-Movie is I-Movie HD 6.0.3. When I have a camera punched up on the mixer I see it in the I-Movie window with the camera/edit switch. When I switch I-Movie to camera I can see the output from the mixer, but it will not allow me to start inputing the switcher into I-Movie. I'm wondering if it's because mixers do not have running counters or timers like cameras or tape decks? Any Ideas?

Sorry, that's such old equipment (the iMovie version and the OS) that I wouldn't have any idea.

Here's a thread that might help, though they are talking about FCP rather than iMovie:

Here's one that deals specifically with iMovie (last post has the "solution" for the original poster):

And you might want to look at software like BoinxTV or FCP but you'll need to get your OS and iMovie (and I'm guessing "whole computer") way updated.
