Ok, so i just found out that I need to keep 10.4 as advised by my school. (I had recently upgraded to 10.5, and did an erase and install. So I was wondering If i could pop in that OEM restore DVD and target my external USB drive.
Someone commented in this thread that it may be against the EULA, but I don't think so because it will only be used on my macbook.

Is this possible?

As long as you are not using on the internal drive and it will only be used on the Mac with which it came, you should be ok.

Also you need to know that the external drive will have to be a FireWire drive as OSX will not install or boot from USB drives.

If you have an Intel Mac it will boot from a USB drive, but Firewire is faster and more reliable. PPC Macs can only boot from Firewire.

Right, I have the blackbook running an intel board, and have used USB to boot before. So you guys think that setting the external as a target will work? awesome!

I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to violate my EULA. Thanks for the responses!
