Ok I am a newer mac owner and knew windows very well. When I open finder on the left where it lists things like documents, apps, and network, it used to list Macintosh HD also. How do I get it back?

Addendum to above post:

You probably dragged Macintosh HD off the Sidebar, which "poof-removed" it.

In Finder Preferences, "Hard disks" should be like this [-],
which means only SOME hard disks are being displayed. (because Macintosh HD was removed)

Check "Hard disks" so that it becomes [✓].
