Nothing when you hold down option?

Your disk is probably stuffed. Get a new hard-drive and copy the files you need over (or initialize your one off a cd if you don't need anything on there). If it does it every weekend, you should seriously consider buying a new one.

it happens every weekend, but only when i switch from OS9 to OSX

If the problem is a maxed out disk. Wouldn't be easier to go back to OS 9
and back off a few files, then restart in OS X?

Just a thought.

After you get back to OS X, run macjanitor to clean up the log files, and
delocalizer to clean the unused other language files. That should get you
some more space.
