Drivers. I know there is some sort of issue with Catalina and drivers. Is it possible to run an HP Laserjet 1018 on MacOS Catalina? It's an older HP Printer.

You need to check with HP to see if your HP LaserJet 1018 is supported in Catalina. Catalina will only run 64 bit apps, however, most drivers are already written for 64 bit. I can tell you that my ancient HP LaserJet 1012 (which is older than your 1018) works just fine with Catalina. Chances are your 1018 will too.

HP has a discussion about your quest: here

The HP LaserJet 1018 and my 1012 are too old to be mentioned in that article. However, as I stated above my 1012 works just fine in Catalina.

Anyway, you can't depend on HP for accurate information. They are one of the worst companies to deal with for support although they do make good printers.

Colour me amazed. I had a heckuva time getting our ancient 1012 running with my office iMac (2009 vintage) - had to modify some linux drivers to make it work, and even then it was hit-or-miss, and this was under Sierra (? - it's been awhile, certainly not one of the newer macOSes). Kudos to you!

According to that HP customer support article my 1012 is supported but it says nothing about the 1018. He needs to try anyway, chances are it will work.

There are a number of open source drivers for the HPLJ 1018. Check out:

Printer: HP LaserJet 1018 | OpenPrinting - The Linux Foundation

If your printer supports Postscript, you may be able to get by using a generic Postscript printer driver.
There should be a driver included with Catalina called: “Generic Postscript PPD”. Try it.

If worse comes to worse, you can purchase a commercial driver for your printer:

10 out of 10 for enthusiasm iSmile but do note the date of posts before replying, in this case 2020, unless of course the question is pertinent to you now.
