My workhorse 2015 iMac suddenly refuses to recognize the Logitec wireless mouse I've used since day one. I've taken out the batteries, replaced them, turned both the mouse and the computer on and off, checked the mouse settings - all to no avail. The only mouse it will recognize is the "scrolling mouse" (ugh!) that came with the computer. That mouse keeps dropping the bluetooth connection, doesn't scroll at all, and is really awkward to use.
Can't afford a new iMac, so I've got to keep this one going. Please help!

you could try deleting the bluetooth library and resetting the mouse.
or
you could buy a new logictech mouse, they might cost less than a new imac.
or other mouse manufactures like macally or anker, who makes a great bluetooth keyboard

if this is a USB, delete all setting in locigtech and reinstall mouse as you did in day 1
if bluetooth, ignore device, the re-install mouse.
this is easier

It's bluetooth, and I goofed - this is a 2010 iMac, so it's almost 10 years old.

Can't reinstall a mouse that the computer won't recognize because there is no option for installing. When I first got the Logitec mouse all that was necessary to get it connected to the computer was a battery; iMac recognized it instantly.

@rainbowcat:

Please refer to the following thread and note what Randy recommended:

Choosing a mouse?

Much better choice than a BT mouse.

iMac is still on El Cap - I was advised not to upgrade such an old computer, as it runs very slowly. Bluetooth works with my iPhone, and with the dang scrolling mouse.

That's what I have! The mouse itself is fine - works on my MacBook Air and on another computer. There's something going on with the iMac, as when I woke it from sleep yesterday it refused to "find" the mouse.

Ok - promise not to laugh, at least not too hard... I double-checked the model of the mouse against Randy's recommendation and discovered cat hair in the port. Switched ports and everything works fine. It's a good thing I love my cats so much...

:rofl

Cats are great; but somehow they can cause havoc with computers. Thanks for posting back and letting us know.

i knew it was something in the way, but hard to describe that or say "ya think something is in the way".
My cat knocked down my macbook air where some keys would not work.
updating is difficult, but not bad.
I went to high sierra and noticed no lag, and the response is much quicker, i do have a ssd *hd that helps.
Mojave is excellent if everything you have is 64bit.

LOVE IT!

Mine will play with fancy toys a coople of times but as soon as they've worked them out it's back to chewing tissue paper of licking **** out of tennis ball.
