fat won't sing in Opera, refuse to shut down MBA

so opera took over my macbook Air, 2010 running El Capitan which can't restart after 1 hour of troubleshooting

delete all opera files
ran terminal killall Opera
ran Onxy-app cleaner everything is fane and dandy! (thanks a bunch!)

power button stop functioning in 2016 (long TSA story)

i might takeoff the cover and power on the macgiver way
or ask for advice

well i learnt my lesson and will use safari, upgrade to highest sierra and lick tim jobs eyeglasses next time i see him.

Fixed the MacBook Air restated and everything is fine
Deleted opera and my account

Let me say this can happen with any browser, which is exactly why I don't use Safari as my default browser. It is unlikely that the problem was entirely or intrinsically due to Opera itself but something uploaded to Opera or by Opera. I have had this issue twice with Firefox and in both cases was able to repair the OS with, at least at that time Malwarebytes, OnyX after uninstalling Firefox. In both cases I reinstalled firefox, logged into my Mozilla account, kept my settings, extensions and preferences but deleted all history, bookmarks and cookies. I then reloaded all my bookmarks from Safari, another reason to keep Safari "clean".
These days I am using Cliqz browser with its privacy features on. In my mind everyone needs selective ad blocking and anti tracking these days plus an anti malware app to run any time things seem a bit out of wack.

Thanks for your reply, Rod, I panicked big time, and all i have been through these past 18 months with my macbook air, i needed an "Aww", or a quick solution. or perhaps just a "told you so...."
My personal take on Opera was that browser allowed files to be downloaded without a warning, as safari alway did using high sierra.This was 100% my fault for downloading a video of that Koala drinking water from a cyclist bootle so i can impress a friend on twitter, instead of linking the video, I let my guard down.
also opera won't lee me log into the MBA after many attempts. so away that went!

this week i went from 2012 to 2020 apple wise. the sky seems brighter, but i lost a friend,

Anyway, there are so many browsers out there I'm sure you will be able to find a good alternative. Personally I still like Firefox but because i wanted some additional security features I have started using Cliqz. It has anti tracking and ad blocking built in which can be easily controlled or customized directly from the menu bar.
I think you got my point about Safari, I do use it for trusted sites but i don't search or browse from it because if it does get corrupted its not just a simple process of uninstalling. To do that with Safari would mean erasing and reinstalling the whole operating system.

i HAD an opera account that would not let me log into opera while using opera on the MacBook air while i had no problem on the Dell XPS
today was upgrade day were everything is on the latest software on all my fun devises were firefox does the heavy duty internet things like stream sports.

Safari, Preferences, Advanced, select "Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar".

Now select "Develop" from the top menu bar, and then select "Empty Caches".
