Hello,

I am attempting to help a friend who NEVER updated their early 2011 15 inch MBP after installing Lion. Their browsers etc. are no longer supported due to their OS age.

I have signed into my Mac App store account to download Mavericks for them (which I have purchased and downloaded prior). When I access it under my purchases it says "paused" - as if I had partially downloaded it before. When I hit resume, nothing happens. When I attempt to delete it, nothing happens.

Any suggestions on how I can help my friend?

You should attempt to get a newer OS for them, or better yet, have them get it themself, this way they will always have access to it, if they need it in the future. See here, How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support.

But, to address your issue, do you see the partial download file in your Applications folder? Or are you looking in Launchpad, or the App Store? In Launchpad, you can click and hold on the Mavericks icon, when it starts to jiggle, there should be an "X" used to delete the app.

Thanks, Ferrarr! I've love to do newer, but a resource I was looking at said that the early 2011 MBP could only run Mavericks as the latest (which did not seem right to me?).

I signed into the other persons Mac with my app store login - so it's not in their app folder etc. The mac that this download would have been done on is long since gone.

Any 2011 MBP, will run any Mac OS X/OS X/macOS up to High Sierra (10.13). Try the link I provided?

I'm working on it - seems like it's going to work just fine. Thanks for pointing me in that direction and I'm glad the website I used was wrong!
