For 3 days now I have been trying to install Catalina on a Late 2012 Mac.

Each time I get a box stating Downloading at 8.09gb and then nothing.

I have tried starting again from the App Store, Shutting Down, Re-starting etc each time the same result.

I have added 2 pictures of the issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Which Mac do you have? The cutoff for compatibility is 2012 for many models and later for some.

And as just said have you performed all available updates to Mojave applications.

Installing Catalina will convert your drive to APFS if it is already not formatted that way. Make sure you run a disk check on your hard drive to see if there are any errors. If the installation detects an error while installing, it will not go any further. It may be possible the hang up you're experiencing is due to errors on the drive.

The screen shot is great, but what was the result of Disk Utility checking the drive? Also it appears there is no indication of a "Container disk1"? A drive formatted to APFS will create a "container" where it places the data. The "Container disk1" is where you need to check for errors.

When Catalina installs, it creates two "containers", one for the system and one for your data.

In your image, where the "View" button is, select it and choose "Show all devices".

Also, make sure you have updated your version of Safari.

Given that he seems to be doing an update, I guess that is required. Seems strange, though, there would be such a requirement. Also, is that the case no matter which browser he is using for the download?

@windymiller

One thing you need to do is to make sure all your third party applications are compatible with Catalina. There have been quite a few posts on these forums about applications not running under Catalina.
