MPB mid-2009 3.06 GHz OS upgrade 10.10 to 10.12 or higher?

I have a mid-2009 15" 3.06 GHz MBP and am currently running OS 10.10. I bought a new camera and updated CaptureOne software to edit the images. The CaptureOne software requires OS 10.12 (Sierra) or later. I went to the Apple Store this morning and inquired about OS upgrade paths, and they said they would only do/recommend 10.11. On Mac Forums I found a workaround for OS 10.12 (there is a known issue with wireless card incompatibility, but my machine should not be affected per the directions; my card is an AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8D)). There are directions for this workaround and users discussed maybe trying it, but I see no successful install reports. Has anyone tried this workaround:

Are there any other known (or anticipated) problems running OS 10.12 or later on a mid-2009 3.06 GHz machine?

Thank you for the links. Apple said in person and says here that the mid-2009 MBPs only support OS 10.11. Here was my question: I'm trying to get to OS 10.12 to use an updated photo-editing software. Has anyone successfully installed OS 10.12 using the hyperlinked workaround? It looks feasible; my machine should not be affected by the wireless card issue. Does it work? Should I be aware of other issues with a 2009 machine and OS 10.12? Is it stable?

Oh, sorry about that. I guess I didn't finish reading you entire post. I haven't tried the workaround, but give it some time as I believe other members have tried it.

Why not just use software that's compatible with your Mac and its OS version???

Even Apple's included free Photos.app and iPhotos.app can do some pretty good photo editing, and there're sure enough other third-party apps With excellent reviews that will work with your operating system.

Search at Macupdate.com for some suggestions and check out some of the reviews.

Thank you, that's a reasonable suggestion. I have already purchased the CaptureOne software update and should have checked compatibility-I just assumed it would work. My new camera is a Fuji X-series and CaptureOne does a better job with raw photo processing because of the Fuji sensor design. I'll wait and see if others report on the workaround.

Here's another compatibility question: Are there issues with Adobe 5.1/5.5 creative suite products in OS 10.12?

I see that the person that made the workaround for OS 10.12 has an installer patch for OS 10.13-10.15 on older machines as well. Has anyone tried those workarounds?

As you have asked for a workaround for an unsupported Mac, and as others have posted ways & means of doing this on these forums and, finally, because all this is freely available on the legitimate internet - I can point you in certain directions at your own peril.

My researches started with OS X Daily where they were talking about Mojave (How to Download a Full Size MacOS Mojave Installer) and they mentioned a Patcher Tool. There is a version of this Tool for Sierra - macOS Sierra Patch Tool

I have no personal experience of doing this, would never want to myself and therefore the risk is all yours. The instructions seem comprehensive.

Should you embark on this, I'd advise a Cloned BU (Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!) as well as a Time Machine BU before starting.
