Accessing another user's profile on my Mac system

Hi All, Very annoying situation here.

At work, our IT tech came in last night to put all of our computers on a shared server, to do this, he had to make a clone of our user on each of our macs.

However on mine, it wasn't a clone, as none of my files are here, but all of the software i've had installed are still present.

My current password works on the new profile, but the old profile isn't showing as a "user" anymore, yet on my Storage Info for my HDD, it's still showing 800+GB as "system" which im assuming is my files from my old user.

Our IT tech only comes in once a fortnight so worst-case scenario, he wont be in for 2 weeks now unless he comes out earlier.

Is there any way for me to access all these old files or am i helpless?

Open up Finder and hit CMD+shift+g which brings up the "Go to folder" dialog. In there, enter "/Users" and hit Return.

You will now see a list of folders, one of them should match your current username and another should have a similar name with something added to indicate it's your original account. Click on the original folder and and then right-click and choose Get Info. Under the Sharing & Permissions section (unlock the lock if you have to) click on the + and select your username from the list that appears. Once added to the list of people in the Get Info dialog, set your username to have Read & Write access.

Now you can access the contents of the source folder and copy everything over to your new user folder (open two Finder windows into the two folders and drag and drop).
