Any reasons not to install Mojave?

Is that functionally any different than "Recent Items" under the  that list the last 15 applications one used?

Thank you for asking that question. I have never taken notice of "Recent Items" in that dropdown. Has it been in earlier OS versions? Both recent applications and recent documents, all in one place! Very cool.

Recent Items? Yes. Been around for a long time.

You can change the amount of viewable "Recent Items", in System Preferences > General. Towards the bottom is Recent items.

I have been using the Mac since forever, it seems, and there are still items I only discovered recently.
For instance, I often end up with a dozen or even two open windows, for years I used to close then one window at a time by clicking on the red button on top left.
Very time consuming and annoying.
Until a few years ago, I somehow discovered that by holding down the option key and clicking on the red button, all open windows would instantly close at once.
Great feature.

I wonder if anyone published a "Tips & Tricks" summary for the Mac - not a big book, basically just one liners of time saving features that are not obvious.

Recent Items? Yes. Been around for a long time.

Now, here's the thing. In an earlier thread, there evolved a discussion comparing aspects of Apple & Microsoft. A few days ago, my lovely wife upgraded to a new PC with Windows 10. It's the first I've used Windows 10. (Lovely though she is, she refuses to switch to a Mac.) I do not see anywhere on it (and have never before seen in any version of Windows) anything like " Recent Items". Why not? At some point over the years (decades?), someone at Microsoft must have noticed it on a Mac, and thought,"Hey, that's a good idea!"

I guess not. (Unless, to be fair, it's there, always been there, and I've never seen it ... just as, until this morning, I had never seen it on a Mac.)

Actually, I just observed that Windows 10 does have "Task View" and "Time Line" which sort of seems to be trying to offer something like " Recent Items". But it is clumsy, cluttered, and unclear.

Command plus Shift plus W is yet another way of closing all open windows or Tabs in Safari.

Yes, you are right, every day one learns a new way to do things or a new feature that you never knew about.

Hence why these Forums are so necessary

Hmmm....

For me this is a bit weird.
I don't use Safari, but...
Command plus Shift plus W closes just the active window in Firefox, also closes the active window in Apple Mail, but does not do anything (I think) when Contacts is the active window or even when a desktop folder is open and active.
Those are the only things I tried - makes no logical sense yet, I'm sure it will eventually

This applies only to Safari. I double checked this earlier before I posted and it works on my iMac and my wife’s MacBook Pro, each running different Operating Systems.

Yes, I'm not questioning that.
I assume if one has a few windows open in Safari and additional other windows open as well, then that command will only close all the Safari windows without touching the rest.
That could be very useful sometimes.

I was hoping that might work in Firefox as well, but no such luck.
Turns out there is no equivalent for Firefox on the Mac, Windows people seem to have a Firefox "Exit" option.

@krs, are you trying to Quit Firefox, or just close all the open windows? Exit and Quit seem like the same thing to me? "command+Q" will Quit/Exit Firefox.

You might be interested in having a look at MacPilot.app, that not only lists a lot of the little OS tips and tricks, but even enables a lot of them or disables or modifies some that you may not like:

Command plus Shift plus W is yet another way of closing all open windows or Tabs in Safari.

For those with a mouse with a spare button, I used this command for the 8th " hidden button" on my Logitech m705 mouse using the LCC pref pane and creation a "custom" click. So now, just a single mouse button click, and the selected window disappears. Nice and simple and quick.

Other mice may have similar options available.

I was looking for the same function that Ian described with Safari, ie just close the open windows on Firefox, not close the application.
I came across this on the net

I can't even find an "Exit" option on any of the Mac Firefox drop downs and I'm not sure what they mean by Firefox menu.
