Not sure if I can explain this - If I move my Magic Mouse around quickly, and click on a hyperlink or any other highlighted item, I often get the drop down contextual menu when I don't want it and did not right click. Is this a meeting in the Sys Prefs > Mouse or am I just too fast? I thought it may be the 5 year old Magic Mouse so I purchased a new one - same results.

I'm not currently using my Magic Mouse but I know from experience that it's very easy to accidentally invoke a gesture by the way you hold the mouse or direction/speed of movement. It's probably the way you're using it especially since you purchased a new one and the same thing is happening.

The MM is sensitive to the placement of fingers on the mouse when you use it in two-button mode. I find I have to really keep that left finger well to the left of centerline. It's easy to drift back to the right and get that menu.

Is the new one brand new (Magic Mouse 2) or new to you? I just got a used Magic Mouse 2 off eBay.

Did this Quirk just suddenly recently start or as it been going on for the last 5 years or so???

If the latter, maybe you might appreciate using a good Logitech mouse instead. I know I sure do. :Smirk:

@Barrygou

I feel certain you know this already; but....

In System Preferences > Mouse > Point & Click, at the bottom is a slider with Tracking Speed. Moving it to the left, slows this.

One of the reasons that people move the mouse "fast" is to see where the cursor actually is. You can obviate this by increasing the size of the Cursor.

System Preferences > Accessibility > look to your left and click on "Display". Here you can change Cursor size to suit your needs.

Just a few thoughts which might help - over and above the advice kindly vouchsafed above.
