Jake I downloaded the latest macOS Mojave to a usb stick but when I select the item on the pen drive the disc keeper tells me not compatible .
I can't remember where I downloaded the Mojave from but it wasn't from the App Store .Will have another try to download again and leave on the laptop not save to the pen drive.
looking for the download now for the Mojave file.

edit. Sorry to be a pain in the rear The download I got os Macosupd10.14.6 supplemental.dmg.

Not sure if that's the correct one,

Tomos, supplementals are not the full update installers. Also, the installer is a app, not a dmg. All you need to do to get it is to go to the Mac store by clicking on the  symbol upper left corner and selecting the App store. Enter "Mojave" in the search box and the store will show you the installer.

EDIT: And what "disk keeper" are you talking about? Do you have any third party utilities installed that could be causing problems (Antivirus, malware, "helper" type stuff)?

OK, that's the correct version. And it's reporting that the file is not compatible because it's the wrong file. It should work with the proper download.

Just one point I went to have a look in the App Store and yes it shows the Mojave if I select that and download it will it go into the download folder? or will it try to install to the Mac OS as I have already got the latest Mojave installed.Sorry to be a pain again.
Big thanks.

No, it will download to the Applications folder and then launch. You can cancel out of the install by using the top bar menu to close the installer. Then run DiskmakerX and it will use the file, named "Install macOS Mojave" to create the bootable installer on the USB drive.

Yes that's all there is to it. Great point about the location of the installer (and quitting it). While DiskmakerX is running it's hard to know if it's doing anything but be patient and you will find that Notification Center in Mojave will send you notifications on progress and completion.

@Tomos

You said:
Sorry about The Diskeeper it should have been Diskmaker. DiskMaker X 8.0.1 for macOS 10.14 Mojave available now !

According to the DiskMaker X website, the latest version for macOS Mojave is 8.0.3 See here: DiskMaker X

Just mentioning this as it may be relevant:)

While we're on this subject, I had Majove .5 and wanted to make an installer for the .6 version so downloaded that, but what I got was only a few hundred MB. Apparently it would download the real thing when it ran. Has anyone else seen that?

Yes. In fact several forum members had a thread going about that some time ago (relatively recently). I'll try to dig up the link to that thread because I think it had a fix for this problem.

As for using the terminal command line mentioned by Csmac in post #31 yes it is perfectly acceptable to go that way but I resist advising it because using sudo commands require some familiarity with the process and a mistake can be disastrous.

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/UNTITLED --nointeraction && say Mojave Drive Created

This script must be copied and pasted exactly and the process followed to the letter leaving more room for error than I am comfortable with.
Disk maker X is a free app which removes most if not all of the risks and stresses the need to use the correct version for your macOS clearly on the download page. Note: The above sudo command is also version specific. In this case it is a script for Mojave only.

Rod,

Yes, one can do nasty things in the terminal, but hopefully someone who isn't confident in being able to use the terminal and sudo will not go there. I just wanted to put the information out there for those who wanted to use it. Here is a link to Apple Support where they describe the command for each of the OS versions back to El Capitan. @Csmac, the real caution is that when people post terminal commands like that, all too often someone who isn't confident will copy/paste it anyway, assuming that it must be ok to run. But if you put the installer anywhere else, or renamed it to anything else, or named the USB drive anything else, it doesn't work. In most cases, the error will confound the user who knows little and maybe they will stop, but you never know.

If you don't know exactly what you are doing, Terminal can be dangerous.
