Untitled Files fro ****!

I have two "untitled files" that won't die! I try to trash them & they come back everytime I restart the computer! What am I doing wrong??

Sorry if this question is in the wrong section! Couldn't find a "Files from ****" section! 've been using Macs since the very 1st one... & the more O.S's they create... the more confused I get! In desperation I keep an iMac that runs on 10.6.8 that I understand perfectly! At 77, maybe I'm just losing it! LOL!

Do you have external drives? Flash drives? Or anything else connected to this machine? Most Flash drives aren't named anything, so they end up with the 'Untitled' name. These aren't specifically files that you can trash.

From your attached picture, it looks like Untitled and Untitled 2 are partitions on your internal drive.

What is the full path to these two items? They are not showing as files, but as drives, so they could be either partitions on the hard drive, on an external drive, or even .dmg files with strange names.

You can have Finder show the full path by Finder, View, Show Path Bar. That will then add a small bar at the bottom of Finder with the full path to the selected item.

As mentioned by all above. "Untitled" & "Untitled 2" are etiher separate hard drives, hard drive partitions, or other drives like thumb drives (not files that can be deleted).

Duh, I think a flash drive or External HD may have gotten named "untitled" by accident! I have had them named by capacity size... but I think that is what happened! At least now I have an idea what to look for!

NOPE! None of my drives were named "Untitled"! Does that mean my Computer H.D. is partitioned??? If it is, I didn't intend it to be partiioned! ???

You helped me figure out the problem... which is... I have 3 partitons in my H.D.!!!

I don't know what I did to create the partitions! Now how to I get it back to no partitons??? Will reinstalling the latest O.S. give me the option to go back to no partitions?

How large is the hard drive (total capacity)?

Maybe you partitioned it into 3 partitions for a reason. Maybe you wanted to do separate things with each partition...since each partition can itself act like a individual hard drive (including being individually bootable if an OS is installed onto it).

However my H.D. got partitioned into 3 sections was not done on purpose! I suspect it happen when I installed 10.14.2. as I did that recently. I've never had that happen before in many decades of using a Mac...... In any case, how can I remove the partitions?

Use Disk Utility. Delete the partitions.

Thanx! I figured it out, as I figured it must concern the Disk Utility! It took a little while to "wake up" & find the right place to delete partitions! How 3 partitions got on my H.D. bets me! "All's well, that ends well!"
