Well my new iMac(I5 3.4, 8gb, macIO 10.14.2) still thinks it lives in Cupertino, Ca. I can't seem to get the correct zone set to correct time to stay. When I open date & time it states it cannot determine current location. When I go to language & region it is correct and mail shows eastern time zone. Can someone point me in the right direction.

System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Location Services > and allow System Preferences to access Location Services

then:

System Preferences > Date & Time > Time Zone

You may have to click the little padlock icon in the bottom left and enter your password on both of these to allow changes.

A reboot may convince it to change.

Uncheck "Set Time and Date Automatically" temporarily?

Jonathan, Sue & Bob thank you all, it seems to have taken now. I did exactly what the three of you suggested. Time and zone are right on:)

Excellent! :) And enjoy your new iMac. It's an incredible machine! Oh, and don't hesitate to ask us all kinds of questions, because I'm sure you'll encounter more little bumps in the road as you continue with your new Mac.

No doubt Jonathan, I'm loving this machine already, wish I would have done this sooner. Right now moving migrated files after finally finding them in a shared folder. I know there will be some frustration but I'm not letting it get to me because I really wanted to learn more computer stuff.
