Hi, I tried to update my MacBook Air with 128SSD from Sierra (with bootcamp) to Mojave but the installation went wrong with a message saying it couldn’t install the system. After this the pc never rebooted again, had to reboot with command+R but couldn’t install again from the recovery tool the OS, it kept saying installation couldn’t succeed. I ended up deleting disk partitions to see if that helps, erase boot camp but couldn’t install nor Mojave neither Sierra again because it gets stucked in the installation process (time machine didn’t work neither).

Can you tell me a list of thing to do from the recovery tool terminal window in order to recover my SSD and install an OS X?

Thanks! EC.

Do you have a clone or Time Machine backup? Either of those are bootable, and will help you accomplish what you want to do.

I have time machine but it doesn’t install the OS X. It’s says that is unable to install. I think that the corrupted installation of Mojave broke the file system in the disk and I cannot solve it.

One has to ask if you checked the state of the drive by running Recovery + Disk First Aid before attempting Mohave? Did you download from the APP STORE and make a bootable USB thumb drive before attempting the upgrade? For mine I always make a bootable thumb drive using LionDiskmaker and then do a format and a clean install.

I didn’t do a usb thumb drive. The disk is ok, the repair options in the recovery tool says that. I need to know the terminal commands to format the disk and the restore to previous state the SSD and install the OS X again.

I think that deleting the bootcamp disk (the booting partition) messed my drive. Does anyone knows how to solve?

You will have to boot from another disk, so you can partition/format the internal drive.

Do you have a friend with a Mac, or acces to another Mac? If so, you can create a bootable USB macOS installer with that Mac?

I can do that by pressing command+R and going to recovery mode. Nevertheless, formatting the disk didn’t help me.

That's why you have to boot from another disk, recovery is part of the same disk.

If you removed BootCamp in any way other than through BootCamp Assistant, you probably killed the operating system and need to get a method of booting the computer to format the drive and installing Mojave. Hence the question about the thumb drive.

Do you have a current backup or clone of your operating system on an external hard drive? Essential are backups!!
