iMac, El Capitan, Lexmark CS410 Laser Printer

Just noticed that with Lexmark Websites in either Firefox, or Safari, the Print window auto launches.

Really annoying caused me to print a bunch of pages, wasted paper and ink.

Can anyone comment on how this is happening. Is there some setting that would cause this, either printer, printer driver.

Did download and install new firmware for the printer, and I deleted and re-added the Lexmark Print Preference.

Comments? Screen Shot 2018-12-10 at 2.36.09 PM.png

When I visit the same page, I get the following part on top.

Perhaps the website is figuring out that you have the Lexmark drivers and giving you the dialog automatically. They are a printer company after all. :)

Are you seeing this behavior with any other website?

Remove the printer, reboot the machine and then visit the website and let's see if the issue persists. If not, you've found the culprit.

What came back? The printer? Or the popup?

The print window, the support window, the screen shot, this really annoying.

How would a web site design a auto launch of the print preference window.

And even when the printer if off.

Thanks, comments

It's not a matter of turning off the printer. Did you go into System Preferences->Printers & Scanners and remove the printer from there?

Maybe add a content blocker like AdBlock, Ghostery or uBlock?

I did that deleted the printer, turned off the printer, and then reinstalled it, and booted the Mac.

It has to be something the web site is doing because it does it both in Firefox, and Safari.

On Firefox, I use AdBlocker Ultimate.

Thanks

Maybe try:

Open System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners -> select the Lexmark CS410 Laser Printer -> Open Print Queue.

In that window is there a print job showing or losted??

If so, select it and delete it.

It could be from a stuck spooled print job(s) that never completed, at least as far as the Print Queue Spooler is concerned.

So this is interesting I deleted the Lexmark Printer from the Mac. Restarted and launched web page, lexmark, and look what happened.
It launched my Epson Ink Jet printer that is off, has not been used in months.
So this is caused by something in their web site code.
http://support.lexmark.com/index?pmv=print&page=content&locale=en&userlocale=EN_US&id=HO2770
...

JFYI: I get the same printjob to print with my default Canon printer when I go to the lexmark site using Chrome.

Why not just click Cancel or Print if you need the info in hard copy, and then just carry on???

EDIT:
PS: Aslo, remove the lexmark URL address from your browser's address bar or any option to "go to last site" etc/.

Yep, it is. I went to the site and got a print dialog box and I don't even have a Lexmark at all, never have. So it's a "feature" of the website and I doubt there is much to be done about it. I just clicked on "Cancel" in the dialog and it went away.

Thanks to all, it just bothered me after I accidentally printed a bunch of paper. Searching at the web it appears it is a java script for this web site.

To me it is just annoying.

Enough, unless someone can figure out how they did this.

Great forum. I really appreciate the feedback.

Saaay... now we can both read "How to Print the Menu Settings and Network Setup Pages on a Lexmark T430 Printer" as if we really wanted to know and then file it. ;D

Never too old to learn something new, Patrick. Never know when you might need to work the Lexmark T430 Menu and Network setup. :Blushing:
